Hikaye 2. Dünya Savaşı sıralarında Dr. Asagumo (Japon bilimadamı) ve Dr. Engel (Alman bilimadamı)süper yeni bir silah yaparlar, bu silahın adı "Big X" dir. Bu silah savaş bitiminde ortadan kaybolur , ama Dr Asagumo'nun oğlu Tokyo da 20 yıl sonra ortaya çıkar ve formül onun elindedir ve öldürülürken Asagumo'nun torunu Akira tarafından kurtarılır. Formül daha sonra Nazi ittifağının bir üyesi olan Engel'in torunu tarafından vücut genişleten bir ilaç olarak açıklanır. 59 bölümlük bir seri olan Big X mangası da bulunmaktadır.
