Karlı noel arifesinde, Tyltyl ve Mytyl kendi evlerinde oturuyorlardı. Normalde, noel ruhlarını yakalarlar fakat anneleri hastalanır. Akşam uyumazlar. Birden bire camlarına yabancı bir cisim çarpar. Camlarına çarpan değişken sihirli güçleri olan bir ruhtur ve adı Berylune'dir. Berylune dünyada yaşamaz. Sadece yılbaşı günleri dünyaya gelirdi. Böylece, Tyltyl ve Mytyl, çeşitli ruhları yakalamaya çalışır. Tyltyl ve Mytly bir yolculuğa çıkıp saadetin kuşunu bulurlar ve annelerini bu hastalıktan kurtarırlar. Tyltly ve Mtyly başka yerlere seyahat ederler. Sonunda karanlığın ruhlarının yenerler.
