Anime serisi Naoki Urasawa'nın ünlü "Monster" mangasına göre uyarlanmıştır.

Dr. Kenzo Tenma çok yetenekli Japon bir doktordur ve o Almanya'da çok övülmektedir. Fakat sonra öncelikle hastasıyla ilgilenirken başka bir kadının ölen kocası için ağladığını görünce değişir. Bundan sonra hastalarını tedavi ederken herkste eşit davranacağı kararına varır. Fakat bir gün Tenma küçük bir erkek çocuk üzerinde çalışır.
Onu kurtaracağına karar verir.
Fakat çocuk daha sonra gözlerden kaybolur ..


But then, the children disappear .. ve cinayet işlemleri başlatılır Tenma bunun utanç, suçluluk duygusu ve endişe hissetmektedir. O zamandan sonra olay araştırılır. Tenma herkes çocuğu araştırırlar olaylar bununla beraber gelişmeye başlar.
