Sainkoku, her birinin farklı renk adları olan sekiz tane vilayet veya evlerden oluşan bir dünyadır. Yeni imparator, Shi Ryuuki sarayla ilgili olan konularda ilgi göstermiyordur. Shuurei adındaki genç kız ise Kou ailesinden doğmuş olmasına rağmen zor bir yaşam sürdürüyordur. Shuurei'ye beklemediği bir anda imparatorun cariyesi olması ve onu bu sayede iyi bir yöneticiye dönüştürmesi için bir davetiye gönderilir ve Shuurei bunu kabul eder. Shuurei'nin babasının evlatlık olarak aldığı esrarengiz Seiran adındaki genç ona bu yolculuğunda koruması olarak eşlik eder. Shuurei imparatorluğa ait saraya girdiğinde mahkeme memuru olma hayalini düşler ve bununla birlikte yol boyunca tanıştığı birçok arkadaşla beraber yoluna devam ederken imparatorda gelmelerini engellemek için elinden geleni yapacaktır.
